Kitra Cahana’s documentary “A Different Kind of Force : Policing Mental Illness” co-directed with Ed Ou won a Peabody Award.

This film offers an unflinching look at the crisis in the US mental health system by exploring the complex and often fraught relationship between the mentally ill and law enforcement. It provides background on the deinstitutionalization of the mental health system and the lack of resources for both police and health workers, ultimately creating a societal problem.
